About Us

Leaders don’t have followers, they inspire new leaders. Dr. Aditi Desai created this academy to shine a light on the great work being done in the arena of dental sleep medicine, so that future generations can continue its evolution.

Meet Dr. Aditi Desai

Dr. Desai is our esteemed President, much revered by various Councils, Boards and Organisations. Her outstanding accolades come from a wealth of experience which spans over 4 decades. Her sights are now set on elevating the medical and dental world to a higher level of understanding and application when it comes to dental sleep medicine.

Dr Aditi Desai is current President of British Society of Dental Sleep Medicine (BSDSM) and President of British Academy of Dental Sleep Medicine (BADSM). She is current President of Odontology, Royal Society of Medicine and Council Member of Sleep Section of Royal Society of Medicine. She serves on the Board of the Association of Respiratory Technology and Physiology (ARTP) and Executive Board of the British Sleep Society. She is one of the first to be appointed to serve on Scientific and Education Committee for the World Dentofacial Sleep Society.

A restorative dentist over 45 years and by virtue of her passion for Sleep Medicine, Aditi was recently awarded Fellowship of the College of General Dentistry, (FCGDent). She limits her practice to the management of patients with sleep disorders that require dental intervention. She works closely with a team of sleep specialists as part of a multidisciplinary team from HCA Outpatients at Shard and Specialist Care at Royal Brompton & Harefield Hospital (RBHT) in Wimpole Street, London. She continues to travel widely, nationally, and internationally, lecturing on the role of dentistry in Sleep Medicine.

She has successfully seen the merger between the British Society of Dental Sleep Medicine and British Sleep Society as well as leading the implementation of the pathway to see the provision of Oral Appliance Therapy by trained dentists in the National Health Service.

Aditi’s interests are travel, cooking, painting, and spending time with her family.

There is a lack of awareness among both the public and the medical profession — even some dentists haven’t done extra training that would allow them to help resolve a number of health conditions, particularly breathing-related sleep disorders”

Meet the Faculty

We’re grateful to have such an impressive panel of experts who lend their time and knowledge to our platform. Special mentions go to: Prof Adrian Williams, Peter Cistulli, Prof Gilles Lavigne, Patrick McKeown, Prof Guy Leschziner, Prof Bhik Kotecha, Mr Vik Veer, Dr Maria Clotilde Carra, and Dr David Schwatz.

We’ve leveraged their wisdom to put together a comprehensive, masterclass course. The Academy has also launched a Mentorship Program where members can sign up for advice, one to one sessions and video-linked learning. Purpose of the educational program is to regulate and establish a standard of care that has been lacking in the management of sleep disordered breathing.

The purpose is to raise the awareness amongst dentists about how much more they can do to help our medical colleagues fight the pandemic of sleep disorders particularly sleep disordered breathing amongst several others.
